CASPAR ESTATE

Caspar Estate is located in the Rutherford Appellation on a hillside overlooking the Napa Valley. The property was purchased in 1962, and the family revived their old Mission olive grove, planted Italian variety olive trees and organically farmed the land, adding solar panels, predatory bird perches and bee hives.

They planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc grape varietals which Julien Fayard uses to produce terroir-driven wines, available by allocation.

COVERT ESTATE

Covert Estate sits on a gentle Southeast facing slope in the heart of Coombsville. Mostly composed of solid volcanic ash, the topsoil is barely existent.

The vines bud early making for a long, slow ripening. All of this preserves aromatics and acidity levels, and generally aids in even ripening patterns providing incredible structure, complexity and balance to the wine.

CAMI VINEYARDS

July 2016 marked the release of the first vintage, 2013 CAMi Red Wine and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2006, we replanted the Cabernet vineyard in 101-14 rootstock and the 337 Clone. This clone produces small clusters of tiny berries with intense fruit and soft tannins. The CAMi Merlot was planted in 1996 from the Three Palms Vineyards clone. These clusters produce a Merlot with complex fruit and mineral layers. Together these wines make up our 2014 CAMi Red Wine in the classic Bordeaux style. With only two acres of 100% estate grown grapes, CAMi is highly allocated.

CAMi’s farmer uses a hands-off, let the site drive the wine philosophy. Cane-pruned and green-farmed, the vines are not allowed herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. Grapes from this land are low-yielding and loose-bunch, with berry-size that is roughly 35-40% smaller than the Napa Valley average.

FIRETREE FAMILY VINEYARDS

The Jimenez family has partnered with Julien Fayard to make two Chardonnays from their estate vineyard in Los Carneros: Bunny Hills and FIDEM. Beginning with their inaugural 2021 vintage,  FIDEM is made from the oldest blocks of the estate, while Bunny Hills is a block-selection. Firetree was first planted in the 1880s to Vitis vinifera and restored post-Prohibition in the 1970s by the O’Hara family, who planted chardonnay and gave the site its name. It was more deeply explored from a single-vineyard and single-block perspective by the Miller family and Silverado Vineyards for three decades before the Jimenez family became the present day stewards of this historic site.

GEMSTONE

Gemstone Vineyard is a unique 16 acre vineyard site with a rich history of producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon for over 25 years. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and meticulously maintained, pruned and harvested by hand. Situated on a gradual, western facing slope in the Yountville appellation, Gemstone is truly a study of terroir. It is comprised of gravelly alluvial deposits from the volcanic soils of nearby Pritchard Hill, layered on top of sandstone bedrock and interspersed with remnants of the fluvial floodplain that worked tirelessly for centuries to create the verdant and fertile basin of the Napa Valley below.

WA_bottles_Idiosyncrasy_web.png

IDIOSYNCRASY

At the heart of wine is the concept of terroir, the expression of the unique character of place in the finished wine’s structure and flavor. Underlying terroir is the intervention of the winemaker, imparting a unique signature on its articulation, coaxing this unique character to the surface - at its best creating something that is peculiar and singular, an idiosyncrasy.

The word idiosyncrasy hails from the greek idios sun krasis, “a mixture with itself”, a true expression of individuality - an apt metaphor the best of wines.

LE PICH

Purlieu’s sister label, Le Pich, gets its name from a Wappo Indian term meaning “golden eagle.” They are hunting birds, and you can often spot them above our vineyards as they soar, glide, circle and arc.

They are beautiful birds — stately and impressive, but not haughty or boasting, with a nimbleness that’s inspiring. We hope that our Le Pich wines live up to the character of their namesake.

High above the fog layer, sunny days, frigid nights, and proximity to the Pacific make for a late-October harvest—if you’re lucky. The wind whips through the surrounding redwoods and oaks, stressing the vines and slowing harvest further, making for spectacularly flavorful fruit.

LORENZI ESTATE

The Lorenzi family has been crafting wine for 100 years, but the Lorenzi Estate brand in Temecula began about 20 years ago with Don Lorenzi and his family. He began crafting small barrels of wine from a variety of grapes including Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah. His passion grew and soon he was making enough wine to gift to friends, clients and charitable groups. Grapes from legendary vineyards formed the genesis of the Lorenzi private label. From there, he set out to build one of Southern California’s premium wineries. Lorenzi boasts a simple hands-on approach: study the wines he loves, study how they are made, and source or grow the fruit needed to make them. Most importantly, he insists on shepherding the wine from fruit to bottle. Together with his family, Don grew Lorenzi Estate Wines from the backyard to the sprawling 16-acre estate. The team has expanded over the years to now include Julien Fayard as consulting winemaker. As the family looks toward the future, they remain rooted in family tradition and exhibit an unrelenting pursuit toward unparalleled distinction.

PURLIEU

Purlieu means “the edge of the forest” or “an outlying area.” Symbolically, “purlieu” refers to our approach to winemaking, to exploring the outskirts and navigating the boundaries of what one may expect of a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

For us, the key to successfully walking that edge lies in maintaining balance: between innovation and tradition, confidence and restraint, depth and refreshment.
